Yobe SSG dismisses ‘misleading publication’ on 3600 Buni housing project

It has come to our notice a misleading publication on social media cynically claiming that the office of the SSG and the Bureau for Public Procurement connived to take advantage of the ongoing compensation and relocation exercise involving the 3600 Buni housing Project across the state.

To set the records straight, the need as well as the cost of compensation for all affected lands was duly approved by the State Executive Council.

Following the said approval, a high powered and widely represented committee was set up that includes the Office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, the Bureau for Public Procurement, Representative of the Ministry of Land and Solid Mineral, the MD Housing and Property Development Company, Ministry of Housing, the Project Coordinator of the 3600 housing as well as Consultants and representatives appointed by Family Homes.

This collection of government and private institution representatives were given the sole prerogative to develop and coordinate the entire framework for compensation and relocation of affected people.

Despite the powers of the Governor to allocate or revoke all lands and titles, His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni clearly emphasised that the exercise be transparent and fair to all parties.

It is, therefore, an exercise that is open, inclusive and involving all relevant parties.
Although the ethics of carrying such a story demands balance, it has, unfortunately, become a common place for people seeking cheap popularity to concoct and spread information without due regard to trustworthiness of their sources and also not minding the ethical and moral obligations of going public with a deaf claim that neither seeks clarification nor a shred of balance in narrative.

Yet, it is with a deeper sense of resolve that this government of Hon. Mai Mala Buni will continue to provide good governance to its people away from the sinister attempts to distract it.

Shuaibu Abdullahi,
Press Secretary to SSG.
