Yobe NHIS sensitises corps members on health insurance coverage

Yobe – Arrangements have been concluded for corps members to access healthcare under the Group Individual and Family Social Health Insurance Programme-n (GIFSHIP-n) all over the country.

This development was disclosed by the Yobe State by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Coordinator, Alh. Dabo I. Abdullahi during a sensitisation lecture presentation on how the programme will work.

The sensitisation presentations were conducted at the Gashua, Gaidam, Potiskum and Damaturu National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) zones of the state.

“Corps members under GIFSHIP-n are to benefit from all the three levels of healthcare (Primary, Secondary and Tertiary) in the country. The programme is being paid by the Federal Government,” he said.

The coordinator also explained that mobilized corp members will immediately start enjoying the programme when they receive their call up letters and continue to receive healthcare during the one month orientation programme.

Already healthcare facilities have been attached to all NYSC orientation camps in the country. After the orientation, corps members will continue to access healthcare up to the end of the service year.

“The corps members will stop enjoying the programme after the three weeks terminal leave after the passing-out-parade,” Yobe NHIS spokesman Dr Salisu Hassan said in a statement at the weekend.

Hajiya Safiya Usman Borkono, who represented the NYSC headquarters and also part of the sensitisation team, stated that the MOU of the programme was signed between the NHIS and NYSC on the 7th September, 2021.

She also stated that the main objective of the programme is to ensure access to quality healthcare for all mobilized and serving corp members in the country.

Also according to her, the programme is also meant to protect corps members from financial hardships due to huge medical bills.

Corps members at the event thanked the NYSC management and the Federal Government for this laudable innitiative.

The sensitisation team includes the representatives from the NHIS headquarters, Yobe State NHIS, and the NYSC headquarters.

Both the NYSC staff and the corps members attended the event.
