Why we observed Eid el-Fitr prayer today, by Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi

Famous Islamic Scholar Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi has explained why he led the Muslim faithful to pray Eid el-Fitr in Bauchi today Wednesday, against the declaration of the Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.

Addressing Muslims after the prayer Sheikh Dahiru said “after listening to reports from different parts of the country we are satisfied that the moon was sighted in Bauchi, Gombe, Argungu, Nasarawa, Kebbi, Maradun and other places.

“If something of this nature happens, one will act according to what Allah and Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) said and Allah and his messenger said fast when you see the new moon and Ramadan will be completed after seeing the new moon of Shawwal.

“And if two people who are credible saw it then people must agree with them or if a group of people saw it then everyone must agree with their verdict. In that case, since they are many and many start from five people you don’t need to look if they are credible, you have no option but to agree with their reports as ordained by Allah and his messenger. For that reason, we are satisfied with the reports we received.”

He said though although “we couldn’t reach the sultan, I have sent to him information through Sarkin Malaman Sokoto and Sarkin Kabin Argungu- that the moon was sighted and I have sent a message to the emir of Bauchi through Ajiya and the Chief Imam of Bauchi.

He prayed for peace and stability of the country and prayed to Almighty Allah to reward the congregations, accept their prayers and forgive their sins.”

In his sermon after the two raka’at prayers Sayyadi Tijjani Sheikh Dahiru admonishes the congregation on the importance of payment of Zakkat al Fitr and advised Muslims to always follow the teachings of Qur’an Hadith of Prophet Muhammad Peace be upon him
