Unlicensed songs: Court adjourns Naziru Ahmad’s case to December 1

A court in Kano on Wednesday revoked the bail earlier granted Hausa royalty singer Naziru Ahmad and set new conditions for him.

The court also ordered for the remand of the singer in a custodial centre pending the meeting of his new bail conditions.

Naziru is being charged for releasing two songs without the clearance of the Kano State Censorship Board. The case has been adjourned till December 1st, 2020 for commencement of hearing.

Among the conditions set by the presiding Magistrate, Aminu Gabari, are presentation of two sureties one of whom must be his biological father or relations and Wakilin Gabas, Arewa or Kudu of Kano or in the alternative a Hisbah Commander in any of the 44 Local government area of the state.

Gabari also said the sureties must all deposit their international passports.

An associate of the singer said they have met the conditions but they have not been able to reach the judge that will approve his release.

Naziru, who was appointed the Sarkin Wakar Sarkin Kano Muhammadu Sanusu II before his deposition, was first arrested in September 2019 but he was granted bail by a Magistrate’s court.
