Teacher accused of beating nursery pupil to death in Kano

Authorities of Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State have shut down El-Salam Success Acadamy in Unguwar Kwaciri after a female teacher was accused of beating a nursery pupil Surajo Surajo Isa to death on Tuesday.

Chairman of Fagge LGA Ibrahim Muhammad Shehi, who confirmed the development to Freedom Radio in Kano, said security operatives have also been deployed to the area to forestall breakdown of law and order.

Reports said youths in the area had attempted to take the law into their hands.

The spokesman of the Kano State Police Command DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who also confirmed the development, said the female teacher and the school proprietors had already been invited for questioning.

However, Hajiya Salma, mother of the deceased pupil, told Freedom Radio that the teacher had been beating her child, while the deceased’s mate said their colleague died as a result of beating.

The mother also lamented what she referred to as the unkind words uttered by the teacher during a condolence visit to her from the school.

The school proprietor Sunday Daniel told the BBC that based on his findings, the deceased pupil did not die as a result of beating.

He however expressed hope that the investigation by the police will ascertain the truth of what happened.

“In our school, pupils are neither beaten nor tortured. And all those I asked, from teachers to pupils, said the deceased was not beaten,” Daniel said.

“But we will await the outcome of the police investigation because the allegation was spread by people outside the school, not within.”
