Supreme Court affirms Matawalle as Zamfara governor

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has dismissed the application of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Four members of the five-member panel, led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Ibrahim Muhammad, in a majority ruling, dismissed the application for lacking merit.

The lead judgment, read by Justice Inyang Okoro, held that the application was a gross abuse of the process of the court and awarded a cost of N2million against the applicant, which the Abdulaziz Yari faction of the APC in the state.

However, in a minority judgment, Justice Centus Nweze said the apex court should have reviewed the judgment by setting aside the consequential order which made PDP the ultimate beneficiary of the intra-party crisis in the Zamfara APC.
