A 32-year-old man, who gave his name as Muhammed Zafaralu, has admitted raping over 40 women and minors in Kwanar Dangora, Kano State.
The Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Adamu had on Monday at the State House said that over 700 cases of rape were reported in Nigeria in the last five months.
In a confessional video eecording by thw Kano State Police Command at its Bompai headquarters, Muhammed told his interrogators that he started the dastardly act this year.
Speaking in Hausa, the rapist said he was arrested after a woman raised the alarm when he broke into her children’s room.
“The woman, after noticing that the light in her children’s room had been switched off, came to find out what was happening and she saw me as I made to run.
“She raised the alarm and her husband woke up and started chasing me. I was arrested with the help of residents,” the rapist said, adding that he sometimes abused small girls without them knowing. “I will simply satisfy myself and leave,” he added.
Muhammed said all his victims were residents of Dangora and included an old woman whom he raped during the raining season.
“I broke into her apartment and raped her because she was staying alone,” he said, adding that some of his victims were 10 years old or less.
The police said they will arraign him in court after the conclusion of their investigation.
