KWASU Vice Chancellor Prof Akanbi dies

The Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University (KWASU) Malete, Prof. Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi is dead,

Dateline Nigeria learnt that Akanbi, a son of the pioneer chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) late Justice Mustapha Akanbi, died at the age of 51 on Sunday evening after a brief illness.

Details of the death remained sketchy at the time of filing this report, but it was gathered that the late Vice Chancellor will be buried in Ilorin on Monday.

Akanbi’s appointment as KWASU VC was approved by Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq in April 2020.

Prof Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi obtained his LL.B from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State in 1997 and his LL.M at the Lagos State University. Subsequently, he obtained his Ph.D from King’s College, London between 2004-2006.

He started his early career at the Legal Department of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as a youth corps members and later joined the chambers of Olawoyin & Olawoyin for his pupillage and Oyedele Gafar &Co. in 1997.

Before his appointment, Akanbi was a lecturer at the Department of Business Law, Faculty of Law at the University of Ilorin.
