Kwankwasiyya, Ganduje spar over sale of public property in Kano

The Kwankwasiyya movement led by former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has accused Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of illegally selling public property to cronies and family members.

But the Ganduje administration insisted it broke no law and urged anyone not satisfied to go to court.

Speaking at a news conference on Friday, a Kwankwasiyy chieftain and Deputy Governorship candidate under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, said Ganduje’s action was unconstitutional and selfish.

Gwarzo listed some of properties sold by the Ganduje administration to include Daula Hotel, Triumph Publishing Company, part of the Eid Ground, Panshekara Modern Abattoir, Hajj Camp, Shahuci Motor Park and the State Zoological garden.

“Ganduje’s last five years of administration is disastrously characterized by underdevelopment and overburden of failure to the good people of Kano.

“We are calling the attention of the state government and the wealthy egocentric individuals involved in the grabbing of public land to desist from this merciless act. The People of Kano, our party the PDP, would not give any self-serving politician and his cohorts the latitude to convert public properties for selfish use,” Gwarzo said.

He accused Ganduje of disposing of public property to few cronies and family members.

However, Ganduje, speaking through his Special Adviser on Media, Salihu Tanko Yakasai, said members of the Kwankwasiyya movement and the PDP, as citizens of the state, are at liberty to challenge the government’s decision before the court of law if they so desire.

“There haven’t been any of these issues that hasn’t been discussed and looked into by the Kano State Executive Council; sometimes with the inputs of professionals before a final decision is taken. So as far these decisions are concern, they are not illegal, and they have been done with due consultations with relevant stakeholders,” Daily Trust quoted Yakasai as saying.
