Kano police rescue girl locked up for 10 years by own parents

The Kano State Police Command has rescued a 15-year-old girl locked up inside a room for 10 years by her biological parents.

Spokesman of command DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said this in a statement on Tuesday.

He said the Kano State Commissioner of Police Samaila Shuaibu Dikko ordered the rescue operation after receiving information on the matter.

Kiyawa said Aisha Jibrin of Darerawa Quarters, Fagge LGA Kano State was solitarily confined for 10 years in a room by her biological parents Mohammed Jibrin and Rabi Mohammed, of the same address inside their house without proper feeding and health care.

“On receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, raised and instructed a Medical Team and a team of Detectives to proceed to the scene, rescue the victim and arrest the culprits. The teams immediately swung in to action.

“The victim was rescued and rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital Kano and admitted. One suspect named Rabi Mohd, 35 years old, a mother to the victim was arrested,” the police said, adding that “Efforts are in progress to arrest the father of the victim who is currently at large.”

He said the police commissioner has ordered that case be transferred to the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department for discrete investigation.
