Kano police arrest cattle rustler with two AK47 rifles

  • ‘I obtained the weapons to free my wife and daughter from a bandit’

The Kano State Police Command has paraded one Abubakar Musa Burumburum, 27, who was found in possession of two AK47 rifles by operatives of Operation Puff Adder.

Answering questions from the spokesman of the Kano State DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, Burumburum, a father of six children from Tudun Wada Local Government Area of Kano State, confessed to being a cattle-rustler who engaged in kidnapping twice.

He said the weapons – two AK 47 rifles and two ammunition – were obtained from the children of late Muhammadu Bakanoma in Zamfara State. He said they gave him the weapons after he told them about a man who took over his wife and daughter.

“The man, who is in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State, married my wife. He is a bandit. He married my wife after I was arrested by the DSS and arraigned in court. All efforts to make him release my wife to me have failed and that’s why I obtained the weapons to fight him,” Burumburum said.

On kidnapping, he confessed to abducting two people only. “I am a cattle rustler and only kidnapped two people in my whole life. One was my father’s brother Alhaji Haruna and the other one Bappan Jauro. We now stay in the same compound with Alhaji Haruna.

“I abducted him after his son kidnapped my sister Hafsat. We kept him first in Agaji before taking him to a forest in Bauchi, but we released him after the payment of N1m ransom. This happened about six years ago,” Burumburum said, adding that he has never killed anyone.

Meanwhile, Kiyawa said Burumburum and other suspects will soon be taken to court upon the completion of investigation.
