Former Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State has said that President Muhammadu Buhari must seek God’s forgiveness for failing to fulfil the promises he made to Nigerians, especially with regards to security.
Lamido spoke in an interview with BBC Hausa.
“Buhari should wake up at night, pray two units, go on his knees and cry to God… he has said so many things which he has failed to do on security, economy etc. So he should look at himself and say God forgive me,” the former governor and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said.
He said Nigerians, on their part, have been praying for the country. “Even when the president was sick, Nigerians prayed and will continue to pray. And I believe Allah, the All Merciful, will accept our prayers. But the president should lead the way.”
On the allegation of sabotage, Lamido said “it is not possible for one to rule without saboteurs. There are people who sole aim is to sabotage others. But your fairness and justice will neutralise all that.”
He said Nigerians, from political to traditional rulers and religious leaders, have all spoken with regards to the current state of affairs in the country. “This is contrary to what obtained at the start of the Buhari presidency where you dare not criticise the government,” Lamido said.
Citing the recent killing of farmers by Boko Haram in Borno, Lamido said the government has failed in its role of protecting the people and urged the president to wake up to his responsibilities and seek God’s forgiveness.
