Gunmen release Kajuru emir, 13 others remain in captivity

The Emir of Kajuru Alhaji Alhassan Adamu has been released by his kidnappers less than 24 hours after he wasd abducted along with 10 family members.

The eldest son of the octogenarian monarch, who also holds the title of Madakin Kajuru Alhaji Musa Alhassan Adamu, confirmed his father’s release to the BBC Hausa on Monday.

He said they were sitting at home when the monarch entered the house unannounced. He however said the 13 others abducted along with the traditional ruler have not been released.

Alhaji Musa Alhassan said the monarch is in high spirit but they will still take him to the hospital for checks.

He said residents of the area celebrated the return of the monarch.

In a brief address to the people, the emir Alhaji Alhassan Adamu said “people of Kajuru I am happy that you are seeing me again” and then broke into tears.

Dateline Nigeria reports that the emir and 13 members of his family were abducted on Sunday by bandits on motorcycles.

Reports said the monarch had held a security meeting on Friday to discuss the insecurity in his domain.
