He is the father of the former Perm Sec, Ministry of Defence, under the Jonathan administration, Alhaji Aliyu Ismail.

Nigeria’s Ambassador to Mexico Aminu Iyawa, who paid tribute to the late elder, said “He chaired the committee, in 1978, that interviewed me for employment as Information Assistant in the defunct Gongola State Ministry of Information, Yola, where he was the Acting Permanent Secretary. In short, he was one of few people that shaped my life to becoming a journalist. He was an inspiration.”

Iyawa prayed to the Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him permanent abode in Jannatul-Firdaus.
