Residents of Ruwan Tofa community in Maru Local Government of Zamfara State are living in fear following attacks by bandits.
According to reports, no fewer than 21 people were killed by bandits on Saturday.
The residents said the bandits, about 200 of them on motorcycles, stormed the community and opened fire indiscriminately after they were confronted by the locals.
A resident told the BBC Hausa service that those killed included a woman, while 15 people were critically injured.
A number of cattle and sheep had also been carted away by the bandits.
However, the spokesman of the Zamfara State Police Command SP Muhammad Shehu only confirmed 10 deaths as a result of the weekend attack.
