The Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya has charged Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (SNCOs) of 1 Division Area of Responsibilities to develop their leadership skills in order to discharge their duties effectively and responsibly.
The COAS stated this at the inauguration ceremony the Leadership Awareness and Development Course 6/2023 holding at the Division Headquarters on 27 March 2023.
In his remarks, the COAS represented by the General Officer Commanding (GOC)1 Division, Force Commander Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Punch Major General Taoreed Lagbaja stated that the Course is specifically designed to cater for an observed leadership gap among SNCOs of the Nigerian Army.
He added that the course is well packaged with contemporary modules of leadership awareness and development so as to enhance creativity and critical thinking skills amongst personnel of the Nigerian Army.
He noted that the Course will also assist SNCOs to adopt and confront evolving security challenges facing the country.
The representative of the COAS reiterated that the Course is in line with the Chief Of Army Staff’s vision which is “A Professional Nigerian Army ready to Accomplish Assigned Missions within a Joint Environment in Defence of Nigerian” stressing that the ability of a SNCO to think fast and exercise command and control over troops placed under him is paramount to successes, growth and development of the Nigerian Army and the country at large.
He urged participants of the course to exhibits high level of commitment, enthusiasm and discipline throughout the duration of the course.
