Delta gov visits victims, site of gas explosion in Agbor

Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has visited the victims and site and surrounding areas of Friday night’s devastating gas explosion in Agbor.

Dateline Nigeria reports that the explosion in Agbor, headquarters of Ika South Local Government Area, killed one person, destroyed several buildings and left many persons with serious injuries.

Okowa stated this on his Twitter handle where he also shared pictures.

“I was reminded why we have continued to enact and enforce stricter guidelines for petroleum operators. It is to avoid such fatal occurrences.

“During my visit to the families that lost loved ones during this gut-wrenching incident, I let them know that my administration will stand with them at this difficult time.

“To ensure that such incidents do not reoccur, especially in other gas plants that are located in residential areas, we will be working with the State House of Assembly to pass legislation that will prohibit gas plants from being domiciled in densely populated areas.

“As we work to move past this catastrophic incident, I have also been briefed on the condition of the survivors of this horrific incident— many of whom suffered devastating burns.”
