Court sentences man to 21 years imprisonment for armed robbery

Justice A. M. Nicol-Clay of the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, has sentenced an armed robber, Aanu Moses, to 21 years imprisonment for armed robbery in Lagos.

According to the Director, Public Prosecution, Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Olayinka Adeyemi, the suspect was arraigned by the Directorate of Public Prosecution on behalf of State Government on a four-count charge, in April, 2017, of armed robbery alongside two other accused persons – Sheriff Emiloju and Farouq Atolagbe.

While noting that the Police are still on the trail of the two other suspects, Adeyemi explained that the trio had robbed Mr. Abass Bashiru, Mr. Olayinka Houka and Mrs. Adewunmi Ogunleye of their valuables including a large amount of cash while armed with dangerous weapons.

She said the Prosecution presented three eyewitnesses and five exhibits before the Court to support its claim that the alleged crimes levied against the accused were true and uncontroverted, urging the court to find the defendant guilty as charged and sentence him accordingly

Delivering her judgment, Justice Nicol-Clay said the Prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt that all the charges levied against Aanu Moses were undisputable.

She, therefore, found the defendant guilty of the charges, which are punishable under section 299 & 297 (2) (a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 and sentenced him to 21 years imprisonment on the counts of Conspiracy to Commit Robbery and Robbery.
