Court convicts Olisa Metuh for laundering N400m

The Federal High Court in Abuja has convicted the former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mr Olisa Metuh for money laundering amounting to N400 million.

Justice Okon Abang delivered the verdict on Tuesday in the suit instituted against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Metuh was given a seven year jail term sentence after the court found him guilty of all the seven-count charges preferred against him by the EFCC. He is also to refund the sum of N425million to the Federal Government.

Also convicted is his firm, Destra Investment Limited (2nd defendant), which was liquidated by the court.

“It is my view that Metuh took possession of the N400 million from the office of the NSA without contractual agreement; he is guilty of money laundering and is hereby convicted on count one,” the judge said.

Metuh had been standing trial alongside his company, Destra investment, over diversion of the money received from the office of the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtd) ahead of the 2015 election.
