Buratai: How I want to be remembered

A former Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai, while handing over to his successor, Maj Gen Ibrahim Attahiru, enjoined officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army to remember him for three key issues.

He advised them to keep the issues as guide for continuous improvement of the Nigerian Army.

“First, remember me for the improved professionalism of the Nigerian Army in the last five and a half years.

“Second, remember me for the responsiveness to the training, operational, administrative and logistics needs of the Nigerian Army.

“Finally, remember me for responsiveness to the Nigerian democratic imperatives. You must defend the constitution at all cost. Your duty is a sacred duty. You just must remain apolitical. You will never go wrong if you follow these guides,” he said.

Buratai has gone into the records as the longest serving Chief of Army Staff with 66 months in charge, surpassing former Head of State General Sani Abacha who held the position for 60 months.
