The Public Relations Officer of Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR), Mallam Umar Aliyu has bagged fellowship award of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR)
Aliyu holds a Bsc in Mass Communication and Masters Degree in Public Relations from Bayero University, Kano.
Similarly, he obtained a Certificate in Computer Word Processing from Palrone Computer Institute, Nsukka, and Post-Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Mass Communication.
A member of the NIPR and Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), he had served as Information Officer at the FCT Agency for Mass Education, and Head, Public Relations (SERVICOM Desk Office) at the FCT Scholarship Board and also at the BPSR.
A Principal Information Officer at the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Mr. Aliyu was the immediate-past Vice-Chairperson of NIPR FCT Chapter
He has attended many capacity building and professional programmes, including SERVICOM Networking Seminar; Speech and Report Writing Skills; New Trends for Effective and Efficient Service Delivery in an Emerging Organisation at various institutions including Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN), National Institute of Public Information, Kaduna and MCPD at NIPR National Secretariat.
Aliyu, as he is fondly called, has written several news items and Feature articles, also produced scripts for radio programmes for government agencies. He is the Editor Public Service Reformer Magazine.
Some his academic papers included: “Reporting of Electoral Reform: A Study of DailyTrust and Guardian newspapers”, “Public Relations as a Veritable Tool for Achieving Organizational Goals: A Case Study of FCT Scholarship Board” and The Role of Public Relations in Correction Misconception About Public Service Reforms in Nigeria: (A case Study of Strategic Communications Departments of Bureau of Public Service Reforms)
An active member of NIPR, he has served in adhoc committees set up by the National Secretariat and was chairman of the 2017 and 2018 Annual General Meeting (AGM) Committee of the NIPR, FCT chapter.
The soft-spoken communication professional played active roles in ensuring participation of NIPR in a committee to rebrand the Public Service, under the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) and training of Information Managers service-wide, which was organized by the European Union (EU) and BPSR.
