Bandits kill 12, set 2 police vehicles ablaze in Zamfara

Armed bandits have invaded Sakajiki village in Kaura Namoda Emirate in Zamfara State and killed 12 people.

The bandits, it was gathered, arrived in the community around 9:00pm on Thursday and continued with their operation till around 4:00am on Friday.

A resident of the area confirmed to Thunderblowers news site that 12 persons were killed while 19 shops and several other houses including a police outpost were burnt.

He said the bandits set ablaze seven vehicles, including two patrol vans belonging to the mobile police officers deployed in the area.

Another source apart from the 12 recovered bodies, search is still on for missing persons.

He added that the police mobile operatives have tried to repel that attack, but the bandits over-powered them.

Zamfara Police spokesperson SP Shehu Muhammad confirmed the incident, noting that the casualties would have been worse but for the arrival of the mobile police operatives.

He said the police commissioner has already deployed additional squad, adding that efforts would be redoubled to ensure that banditry is wiped out of the state.
