ASUP begins indefinite strike

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has announced the commencement of an indefinite strike.

The union’s president Anderson Ezeibe, who announced this in Abuja on Tuesday, said members of the union have agreed to shut all the Nigerian Polytechnics until their demands over salary arrears, non-constitution of governing councils, among other issues, are met.

The Minister of Education Adamu Adamu had on Monday invited ASUP leaders to an emergency meeting following the threat by the Union to embark on strike.

“The emergency meeting is to hold tomorrow, the 6th of April, 2021, at 1:00am in the Ministry’s Headquarters in Abuja” a statement from the ministry said.

“Explaining the reason for the emergency meeting, the Minister said the meeting is intended to nip the strike in the bud,” it added.
