Amaechi: I am not aware of NPA MD Hadiza Bala Usman’s suspension

…says Nigeria already repaying Chinese loans

Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi says he is not aware that Hadiza Bala Usman has been suspended as the managing director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).

Mr Amaechi on Monday told ARISE News that the power to suspend Ms Bala Usman rests solely with the Nigerian President.

According to him, Bala Usman was asked to step aside for investigations to be carried out on the NPA and not the managing director.

While there’s a panel conducting the investigation, the minister says he’s not aware when the panel will conclude their inquiry.

Amaechi also said Nigeria has already commenced repayment of loans gotten from China for the construction of railways.

He said Nigeria has moved from the N70 million revenue target for the Abuja to Kaduna rail line to N350 million as at May 2020.

According to the minister, once the operational costs are taken away, “we have started paying back the loans”.

Mr Amaechi also spoke on reports that suggests Africa’s largest economy has mortgaged her assets to the Chinese government.
