Agriculture: We won’t be deterred by flood – Kebbi gov

Kebbi State Government is going ahead with the provision of agricultural input to all farmers affected by recent flooding for recultivation to recoup losses suffered.

Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu affirmed this in Dandi Local Government Area this Tuesday in continuation of his visit to places affected by severe flooding which destroyed houses, crops, animals and farmlands.

Addressing displaced persons, traders, boat operators at Dole-Kaina river bank, on the border with the Republics of Niger and Benin senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu said cassava and sweet potatoes seedlings would be provided to the farmers for immediate planting.

He advised communities male and females to form associations to enjoy immediate loan disbursement.

Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu also visited Buma, Tunga Rafi, Gamawa, Tungan Sule, Tungar Garba, Buringa, Gwanda, Tungan Hantsi and Tungar Noma to inspect the impact of the flooding and consoled the communities.

He prayed Allah guide against a recurrence, urging them to take solace in God and requested wealthy individuals to offer them necessary assistance.

Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu received complaints from farmers who took loans to cultivate crops but now destroyed by the flood, saying that the Governor should intervene to extend the time frame for repayment which he replied in the positive.

Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu was also willing to provide support for the resettlement of those living in areas probe to flood elsewhere.

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Sama’ila Abdulmumini Kamba who led the governor to some of the villages, told him that all the areas were severely affected by water which rendered the people homeless.

In separate response, the village heads of Tungan Rafi Alhaji Rabi’u, Buma, Hakimi Labbo, a female farmer Fati Buma Ambursa, Village Head of Gwanda Alhaji Ladan Salfi, District Head of Dole Kaina Muhammadu Bello Marafa, Sarkin Shikon Kamba, District Head of Kamba Alh. Muhammadu Zarummai commended Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu for opening up the area with good road and urged him to extend the road network to Aljannare.

They informed the Governor that, the chairman of Dandi Local Government Hon. Garba Salihu Kamba (Dila) and SEMA have provided them with temporary shelter, food, clothing and other items.

Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu provided the victims with immediate financial support and directed that proper care should be accorded them.

Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu paid similar visit to Besse, Dutsin-Mari, Samanaji, Zaria Kala-Kala IDPs centres, sympathizing with affected persons and directed that necessary care be given to women, children and men including medication, drinking water and clothing.

The Member House of Representative Representing Koko/Besse/Maiyama Constituency, Alhaji Muhammad Shehu Koko (Wamban Koko) accompanied the Governor on the visit.

The Chairman of Koko/Besse Local Government, Alhaji Yahaya Bello Koko, the Sanyinnan Besse Muhammad Nasir, Baraden Dutsin Mari Alhaji Mu’allayidi Usman and a women spokesperson commended Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu for taking prompt action to providing relief materials to the area and requested for additional support as more villages were daily being displaced by the flood.
