Zakzaky’s followers protest in Abuja as trial continues Monday

Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), a Shiite group, has continued their protest demanding the “immediate and unconditional” release of their leader Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky and his wife Malama Zeenah.

Pictures of the protest were shared by Zakzaky’s office on its Twitter handle on Monday.

It said “Daily #FreeZakzaky protest staged by unrelenting followers of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky (H). Reiterating their demand for immediate and unconditional release of the Sheikh and his wife Malama Zeenah. Garki District of FCT, Abuja.”

Dateline Nigeria reports that Zakzaky’s trial is fixed for continuation on February 24 and February 25 at a Kaduna State High Court presided by Justice Gideon Kurada.

The charges against the defendants were amended from four to two (Zakzaky and his wife), while the two other persons still at large were excluded to enable the trial start.

Zakzaky and his wife are reportedly ill and have had to fly to India for medication before it was aborted following the protest by the Shiite leader.
