Yusuf Ladan contributed immensely to Hausa literature – Sheme

Alhaji Yusufu Ladan, Dan Iyan Zazzau, who died Tuesday in Kaduna, has contributed immensely to the development of Hausa literature.

Bilingual Nigerian writer, journalist, filmmaker and publisher Ibrahim Sheme said this in a brief tribute to the late veteran broadcaster.

He recalled the numerous interviews late Yusuf Ladan did with great and legendary Hausa singers including Mamman Shata.

“He wrote the famous song of Azizu Ɗan Makaranta by Hajiya Uwani Zakirai, which was the first Hausa song to have its beat recorded in the studio.

“He was also the brain behind drama series such as ‘Gundumi Fasa Kwanya’ and ‘Duniya Budurwar Wawa’. He equally wrote a book on drama and so many other things,” Sheme said.

Dateline Nigeria also recalls that the late Yusuf Ladan wrote other famous plays including ‘Zaman Duniya Iyawa’ (which consists of three plays).

Born on the 29th of July, 1935, Yusuf Ladan was among the first set of broadcasters in Northern Nigeria.

He left behind many siblings, three wives, 20 children and many grandchildren.
