Yousuf Deedat dies two days after being shot

The son of a notable Islamic scholar who was shot in South Africa has died from his wounds, the family confirms in a statement.

Mr Yousuf Deedat, a leading Muslim scholar and activist, passed away at St Anne’s hospital at 14:40 pm this afternoon, Friday 17th January. Mr Deedat was fatally wounded on Wednesday when he was shot by an unknown gunman in Verulam, Raees Deedat said.

He was airlifted to hospital where his condition was critical. His family and friends were at his bedside when he passed away peacefully. The family conveys their heartfelt gratitude for the support they received from family, friends and the community. May his soul rest in peace.

The funeral arrangements are as follows:
The body will lie at 14 Meyrick Avenue, Glenwood from 10pm tonight, Friday 17 January and will leave 14 Meyrick Avenue at 3:30am tomorrow morning, Saturday 18th January.
The funeral prayer will be held at the Verulam Wick Street Mosque after the morning prayer, Fajr Salaah, at 4:20am. This will be followed by the prayer and burial at the Verulam cemetery.
