Woman regains freedom after six weeks in kidnappers’ den

A middle aged woman, Hadiza Alhaji Gajere of Yarmalamai ward in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State yesterday regained her freedom, six weeks after she was abducted from her matrimonial home.

The woman was brought to the Secretary to the Government of Katsina State around 11:00pm last night by the Commander, 17 Brigade, Katsina, Brigadier General B. Idris along with some officers from the National Intelligence Agency who intercepted Hadiza Garba in Gusau, Zamfara State.

Receiving the kidnap victim on behalf of the Katsina State Government, the Secretary to the Government of the State, Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa said that the Government is worried with the recent incessant attacks by bandits in some parts of the State.

He urged people to be more patient and not loose confidence in the security agents as government at all levels were doing their best to bring an end to these nefarious activities of the bandits.

He then directed for the woman to be reunited with her family and thanked the officers who facilitated her return.

Narrating her ordeal, Hadiza Garba said that, on that fateful day, five men each armed with AK-47 riffle stormed her house in Unguwar Bajida village of Yarmalamai ward and took her hostage in the presence of her husband.

Hadiza who is also a Fulani added that the previous year similar group of gunmen came to the village and rustled all their cattle.

She further said that she had spent 42 days in the bandits camp because her family was unable to meet their demand for 5 Million Naira ransome.

Hadiza Garba explained that one day, when her husband through a phone call told them that he was able to raised N250, 000 only which he offered to pay, the bandits warned him never to call them again.

However she said one lady and three other victims whom she met at the bandit’s camp were all released some weeks ago, after their families have paid the ransome.

According to her, yesterday she was left with only one bandit to guard her and lucky as she was, the guy fell into a deep sleep which gave her the opportunity to escape.

She narrated that she ran through the forest to unknown direction until when she met with some people who took her to the security agents in Gusau.
