Veteran Hausa actor Kasagi dies in Katsina

A veteran Hausa actor Alhaji Umaru Danjuma Katsina, popularly known as Kasagi, has passed on.

He died Friday in Katsina, according to the BBC.

The late Kasagi was the lead character in a television drama with the same name in 1980s, which ran on NTA.

He worked with the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, for several years and retired as Director of History and Culture Bureau, Katsina State.

Kasagi was also a playwright and was the author of two plays, “Kulba Na Barna” and “Ai Ga Irin Ta Nan”, both published by the Northern Nigerian Publishing Company (NNPC) Limited, Zaria.

“Kulba Na Barna” was also adapted into a movie produced by the Nigerian Film Corporation. It featured Bilkisu Labaran, formerly of the BBC Hausa service, and won an award at a film festival abroad.
