Umar Abba emerges acting chairman of EFCC

A Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Mohammed Umar Abba has emerged the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Dateline Nigeria has learnt.

Abba, who is the Director of Operations at the anti-graft commission, hails from Kano State.

The appointment of Abba followed the suspension of Ibrahim Magu who is being probed over allegations against his by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that a top official of the EFCC confirmed to it that Abba was picked to oversee the affairs of the agency following the reported suspension of Magu.

The official, however, said that the commission had not received any official communication on the reported suspension.

Spokesman of the EFCC, Mr Dele Oyewale, declined comments when contacted by NAN to confirm the latest development.
