Tambuwal appoints caretakers for Sokoto LGs as chairmen’s tenure expires

Gov. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state has approved the appointment of twenty-three caretakers of local government areas (LGAs) in the state.

This, according to the Secretary to State Government (SSG), Muhammad Mainasara Ahmad (mni), follows the expiration of the tenure of those hitherto in charge of the LGAs in the state.

Ahmed said: “consequent to the expiration of tenure of local government councils as provided under Local Government (Amendment) Law No. 6 of 2016, the state Governor has approved the appointment of the following as Caretaker Committee Chairmen for the 23 local government areas pending the conduct of the Local Government election.”

Those appointed are: Wadata Muhammad- (Binji), Shehu Muhammad (Bodinga), Umar Buda (Dange/Shuni), Abdul-Wahab Yahaya (Goronyo), Aminu A. Aya (Gwadabawa), and Abubakar Yusuf Dan-Ali (Isa).

Others are Yahaya Abdullahi Gandi (Rabah), Jafaru Hamza (Kware), Umaru Danyaro (Sabon Birni), Bello Muhammad Gunki (Silame), Aliyu Dantani Shagari (Shagari), Mustapha Shehu Sokoto- (Sokoto North), and Faruku Abdulrahman Sayudi (Sokoto South).

The rest are: Nasiru Babata (Tambuwal), Ibrahim Muhammad Lawal (Tangaza), Abubakar Salihu (Tureta), Bello Abubakar Gwiwa (Wamakko), Lawal Marafa Fakku (Kebbe), Abdulkadir Arzika Wurno (Wurno), Garba Yakubu Tsitse (Gada), Aliyu Shehu Illela (Illela), Bello Wakili Bachaka (Gudu) and Haliru Abubakar Kilgori (Yabo).

The SSG also stated that “the appointment takes effect from 11th April, 2023.

“In the same vein, the state Governor has also approved the reconstitution of the Caretaker Councillors for the 23 local government areas, the appointments of which will be formalized in due course,” the SSG said
