Soldiers rescue some abducted FGC Yauri students

Soldiers have rescued some of the students abducted by gunmen from the Federal Government College Yauri in Kebbi State.

According to reports, the gunmen were ambushed by the soldiers on Thursday night inside the forest.

The lawmaker representing the area, Rep Muhammad Bello Ngaski confirmed the rescue to the BBC. The students and some teachers were kidnapped on Thursday by gunmen who stormed their school.

Some witnesses further told the BBC that 0ver 80 corpses of bandits have also been seen in the bush. This reportedly followed gun battle between the soldiers and the bandits in Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

“What happened was that at the town of Makoko, which has been deserted as a result of bandit attacks, the soldiers intercepted them and a battle ensued. As I am talking to you over 80 corpses of bandits have been recovered.

“About seven students have also been rescued and returned, while soldiers have circled the bush where the rest are being held,” a witness said, adding that “The rescued students are in Makoko and the chairman of Sakaba has sent medical personnel to examine them.”

Rep Ngaski also said nine students have been rescued, adding that they are still yet to ascertain the number of those abducted but parents have registered over 50.
