Senator visits family of 6-year-old girl raped to death in Kaduna

...commended the family for speaking out and demanding for justice

Senator Uba Sani (APC, Kaduna Central) has visited the family of Khadijah Ya’u, the 6-year-old girl raped to death in Kurmin Mashi, Kaduna, assuring them that “no stone will be left unturned to bring the culprits to book.”

Sani, who commended the family for speaking out and demanding for
justice, added that “Their action will encourage families of other rape
victims to conquer fear of stigmatization and “break the silence.”

He said “I will work closely with the law enforcement agencies and human
rights organizations to ensure that the culprits are fished out and exemplary punishment meted out to them.

“I also commended the Kumin Mashi community for standing by the family and giving them the critical psychological support needed for them to stand firm in demanding justice.

“This display of solidarity will send a clear signal to potential rapists that the Kurmin Mashi community has zero tolerance for anti-social behaviour.

“I assured the family and community that the Senate, and indeed the National Assembly, will accelerate action on the bill that aims to strengthen the law on rape. Stiffer penalties have been proposed as a way of putting a stop to the rising cases of rape in Nigeria.”
