Sen Jummai Alhassan ‘Maman Taraba’ dies in Egypt

Former Minister of Women Affairs, Senator Aisha Jummai AlHassan, popularly known as Mama Taraba, has died in Egypt, family sources confirmed to Dateline Nigeria.

She died on Friday after a protracted illness at the age of 61.

Alhassan, who was the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State in 2015, was born on the 16 September 1959 in Jalingo.

Aisha Jummai Al-Hassan was a trained lawyer who became the first female to be appointed Taraba State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice. The first woman to be appointed as Secretary FCT judicial council and later appointed the Chief Registrar of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja on 17 December 2003.
