Salami panel recommends sacking, prosecuting Magu

The Salami panel, which is probing the suspended Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has asked President Buhari to sack and prosecute him.

This is contained in an interim report submitted to the president by the panel on Wednesday, according to an online news platform, The Cable.

The panel further accused the suspended chairman of violating the code of conduct law by failing to declare his assets when he was appointed in 2015.

According to our source, “The Salami panel has been sending interim reports to the President. Its latest report, however, recommends Magu’s sacking from the EFCC and possible prosecution.”

He further added that although the panel was yet to conclude it’s investigation, documents and testimonies from witnesses were enough to recommend his sacking and possible prosecution.

Magu’s lawyer, Wahab Shitu said Magu is yet to open his defence, and recommending for his sack would be unjust.

The lawyer said even if the report was an interim one, it would be wrong to submit it without hearing from Magu.

Shittu added, “Ibrahim Magu, my client, has not opened his defence and the panel has repeatedly indicated that he would be allowed to defend himself only after witnesses have been exhausted. So, somebody who has yet to defend allegations against him, can he be indicted?
