Resident doctors, under the aegis of National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), have embarked on an indefinite strike nationwide.
This followed the expiration on Wednesday of an ultimatum issued to the Federal Government.
NARD President, Dr Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi, announced the commencement of the strike on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television.
“The strike commenced 8am this morning, and we enjoin all resident doctors to start the strike immediately,” he said.
The doctors had called for the immediate payment of all salaries owed to all house officers, including March salaries (regardless of quota system) before the end of business on March 31, among other demands.
A meeting with the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, on Wednesday in Abuja, failed to stop the strike.
