Re-run polls: Police beef up security in Kano, Kaduna, Bauchi, others

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu has ordered security beef up in states where rerun elections will take place, Dateline Nigeria reports.

Rerun elections will take place on Saturday, January 25 in one Senatorial District, 12 House of Representatives and 15 State Houses of Assembly seats across Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Benue, Cross River, Imo, Kaduna, Kano, Niger, Ogun and Sokoto states.

In Kano, for instance, there would be rerun election in Tudunwada/Doguwa Federal Constituency following the sack of the House of Reps Leader, Alhassan Doguwa by the Court of Appeal in Kaduna.

There would also be another rerun in Kiru and Bebeji federal constituency where the appellate court sacked Abdulmumin Jibrin and ordered a fresh election.

A statement issued on Friday the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), DCP Frank Mba, said commissioners of police in the respective states have been ordered to ensure security for INEC offices and facilities.

Mba said the order was to ensure hitch-free elections and a level playing ground for all the candidates and parties in the elections. He urged politicians, candidates and the electorate to ensure strict conformity to the rules of law during the elections.
