Vice President, governors set to lose immunity in criminal matters

A bill that will strip vice president, governors, and deputy governors of immunity in criminal matters has been read for the second time at the Senate.

The president is however exempted from the bill.

The “Bill for an Act to alter the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 to qualify criminal liability for certain public officers under Section 308” is sponsored by Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege (APC, Delta).

Omo-Agege is the chairman of the Senate Committee on the review of the constitution.
