Police arrest pastor over killing of native doctor in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command in Anambra has said that it is investigating the alleged killing of a 60-year-old native doctor Oliver Ugwu by a 21-year-old pastor Uchenna Chukwuma on Thursday.

Spokesman of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Haruna Mohammed, said in statement issued on Friday in Awka that the native doctor hailed from Umusiome village, Nkpor near Onitsha, while the pastor, who is the suspect, resides at Ugwuezue street of the same area.

“The suspect, who hails from Amagunze in Nkanu East LGA of Enugu State, claimed during interrogation that he was sent by God to kill the native doctor.

“The suspect further alleged that the victim was disturbing him spiritually and had not allowed him to progress financially,” Mohammed said in the statement.

He said police detectives attached to Ogidi Division led by the DPO, CSP Ekuri Remigius visited the scene of the crime and took the victim to Iyi Enu hospital Ogidi where he was certified dead, while the corpse was deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.

He added that the machete allegedly used in killing the native doctor has been recovered and will be used as exhibit. The case is now with the Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation.
