The Sokoto State Police Command has rescued a 12-year-old girl locked up inside cage for eight months in Sokoto North Local Government Area.
The spokesman for the command ASP Sanusi Abubakar told the BBC Hausa service the girl was rescued on Thursday, adding that those who locked her up have been arrested.
According to reports, the girl’s guardians locked her up because of a sickness.
ASP Abubakar said “the girl was locked up without being fed for eight months. When our personnel freed the girl, she couldn’t even walk because she has lost energy.
“She is in a very sorry situation. She was doing everything inside the case, including stoolinh and urinating.”
The police said the girl had been taken to a hospital for medical attention, adding that investigation will continue.
