Police begin probe as 8 children found dead in parked vehicle in Lagos

The police in Lagos said they have commenced investigation after eight children were found dead in a Lexus Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) parked on Adelayo street, Jah-Micheal, along Badagry expressway in Lagos.

Spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, said ““The eight children were said to have mistakenly locked themselves in an abandoned car while playing.

“Their bodies have been recovered and deposited at the Badagry General Hospital’s morgue for autopsy so as to determine the actual cause of death.”

He added that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police Hakeem Odumosu has ordered a “thorough and speedy” investigation into the circumstances surrounding their death.

The owner of the vehicle Saliat Kazeem was reportedly arrested as part of investigation by the police.

The children have since been buried according to Islamic rites on Sunday morning, without an autopsy conducted on them, Premium Times reported.
