Police arrest 11 palace guards over torture of housemaid to death in Kano

The Kano State Police Command said it has arrested 11 suspects for allegedly torturing a 50-year-old housemaid to death inside Kano emir’s palace over allegations of witchcraft.

The sppkesman of the Kano police, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the incident happened last Saturday and the deceased had since been buried.

Kiyawa said the suspects were arrested on Tuesday, while more suspects are being traced over the incident.

He said the woman was tortured by some palace guards who accused her of witchcraft in the sections of one of the late emir Ado Bayero’s widows.

“We have started gathering information since the 29th of June. It was established that the incident happened last Saturday.

“And by the time we received the report, the woman had been buried already. We are still investigating the matter.

“First, we arrested two suspects, and then nine others ‘ six males, three females. We are looking for more and Godwilling we will arrest them,” DSP Kiyawa said, adding that they will brief journalists at the end of their investigation.
