Onne Customs generates N38.8bn in three months

The year 2021 seems to hold much promise for the Onne Port Area II Command as they raked in N38.8 billion as revenue, a 64.4% percent increase from N22.9 billion collected between January and March 2020.

This is according to the Area Controller, Auwal Mohammed, during a press briefing with the media in Porthacourt.

In anti-smuggling activities, seizures made include 2 used Mitsubishi, 210 bales of secondhand clothing, 1,435 pieces of used tyres, 20 bales of fabrics amongst others. It all came down to a cumulative duty of N4.1 billion naira.

On exports, 207 thousand metric tonnes of cargoes were processed, which include cashew nuts, ginger, sesame seeds, palm kernel, tiger nuts and others with a total value of $70.8 million.

The Area Controller urged his officers to continue to execute their mandate and be unrelenting as well as uncompromising in their implementation of government directives in regards to trade
