OIC Sec-Gen visits Mali transitional president

Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, was received in audience, on Friday 05 August 2022, by Colonel Assimi GOITA, President of the Transition, Head of State of Mali.

During the audience, the Secretary-General underlined the essential role of Mali in the stability and security of the Sahel and the ECOWAS region.

The audience was also an opportunity to review the multiple challenges facing Mali, including those related to the transition and the importance of combining efforts and encouraging dialogue and cooperation to find acceptable solutions.

Colonel Assimi GOITA expressed his gratitude to the OIC for its constant and multifaceted support to Mali.

He welcomed the commendable efforts of the OIC through the Special Envoy of its Secretary-General to Africa, in favor of an honorable way out of the crisis following the sanctions imposed by ECOWAS against Mali on 9 /1/ 2022.

The Secretary General assured him of the OIC’s continued commitment to the restoration of security, stabilization of the country and its development.

On the other hand, the Secretary General discussed with Mr. Abdoulaye DIOP, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Mali, the relations between the OIC and Mali, reaffirming the will to strengthen them.
