NUPRC staff shot dead while jogging in Abuja

A staff of Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) Engr. Ahmed Usman Hassan has been killed in Abuja.

It was learnt that Hassan was shot dead by suspected armed robbers while doing early morning jogging near his residence in Karmo area of the FCT. The robbers reportedly took his phone away.

The FCT Police Command could not be reached for comment.

“I just met him for the first time last week, in a friend’s house. He’s a nice, cool guy,” Abdulkadir Nasidi, a friend, said without elaborating.

Also speaking on the death of Hassan, another friend Abba Habu said the deceased “just finished his master’s here [Dundee]. He was eager to go back home with his family, not knowing his killers were calling in exchange for his phone.

“Our last physical contact was when he returned for graduation, I gave him my few naira notes to help me deposit in the bank. We cannot question Allah’s decision, whenever a young family man dies. My thought is with the little children. Ahmad, I know how attached you were to little Aliyu. Allah knows the best.”

Another friend Auwal Tukur said “It’s really painful to just wake up and find out the person you talked with, chatted with hours ago has passed away.

“We have made all the necessary arrangements, planning that he and his entire family will travel to Adamawa State, Mayobelwa to be precise on the 29th for a wedding, Unknown to all of us, he won’t make it. The Almighty Allah, the Supreme Planner of all planners has planned something different for him…

“Indeed Usman is a rare friend, humble and gentle per excellence. May Almighty Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus and give his family and friends the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”

Hassan, who was with the Department of Petroleum Resources of the NUPRC, recently completed his studies in Energy Oil and Gas Economics at University of Dundee, Scotland. He had earlier studied Chemical Engineering at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi,.
