Niger gov visits Agric minister, seeks more support for farmers

Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State said the development of the abundant agricultural potentials in the state will lead to food sufficiency in Nigeria.

Governor Sani Bello disclosed this in an interview after he held a closed-door meeting with the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Muhammad Sabo Nanono in Abuja on Thursday.

The governor said his meeting with the minister was centred on empowering farmers, adding that there is the need to develop the sector by supporting the farmers so as improve productivity.

“We talked about Agriculture and how we can develop the sector because we strongly believe with the potentials of agriculture in Nigeria, we should have some food sufficiency.

“So we discussed on how we should support our farmers and to improve things
when it comes to agriculture”, he was quoted by his Chief Press Secretary Mary Noel-Berje as saying.

The governor maintained that he is always in communication with the Minister on how best the sector can be strengthened especially in the State being that Agriculture is one of the top priorities of the present administration.

Recall that Niger State Government is already developing the sector through Agriculture-value-chain and the development of livestock sector to help curb the incessant herders-farmers’ clashes in the State.
