Niger gov pledges sustained contribution to millet production, receives Indian envoy

Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has pledged contributions to the success of the International Year for Millet aimed at boosting millet production in Nigeria

The Governor made the promise when he received the India High Commissioner, Sheri Balasubramanian on a visit at the Niger State Lodge, Abuja to brief the Governor on the preparation made for the event slated to take place in India.

While commending the India High Commissioner for his efforts thus far towards the success of the event, Governor Sani Bello expressed willingness to improve farmers’ yield in Millet production in the state.

The International Year of Millet is being organised following the success of the Nigeria Millet Food Festival held in January this year in Abuja where Niger State came top.

In view of this, Governor Sani Bello, with the support of the India High Commissioner is expected to lead Nigeria’s delegation to the event in India on the 18th of March, 2023.

India selected states in Nigeria, Niger State inclusive to establish a relationship called Millet Initiative.

The initiative will provide an opportunity for both nations to have an increased and better Millet production, and ensure efficient processing and consumption among others.
