NHIA: North East state coordinators tasked on universal health coverage

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) North East Zonal Coordinator, Alh. Dabo I. Abdullahi has called on state coordinators in the zone to work hard towards the attainment of Universal Health Coverage in the country.

He made the call during the NHIA’s North East Zone 4th Quarter Peer Review meeting in Bauchi.

The zonal coordinator also urged the state coordinators to always remember the mission and vision of organization as this would enable them to discharge their duties effectively.

He congratulated the Taraba State Health Insurance Agency for the successful flag-off of the Formal Sector Health Plan and the provision of qualitative healthcare to 26,000 Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF) enrollees in the state.

The Bauchi State Coordinator Alh. Mustapha Muhammad, who hosted the event, appreciated the effort of the Director General of the NHIA, Prof.Nasir Sambo, for the approving of the conduct of the meeting.

The event was attended by state coordinators and the heads of departments of Adamawa Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe states

He said the meeting would serve as an avenue to unearth most of the challenges frustrating the effective implementation of Social Health Insurance as well as providing solutions.

The Adamawa State Coordinator Comrade Aliyu Musa urged his counterparts to emulate his new initiative which is called “Sustained Continues Enrollees Education Enlightenment and Confidence Restoration Exercise (SCEEECRE).

He stated that the main objective of the initiative is to ensure the attainment of UHC through aggressive sensitization and education of prospective and teeming enrollees.

Borno and Yobe State Coordinators, Mal. Ahmed Jamal and Alh.Mansur Akilu respectively, in their various presentations indicated significant improvement on the enrollment figures of the two states.

They highlighted the improvement of security in the area as one of the reasons for the increase of the enrollment of people in the various Social Health Insurance Programmes.

Commenting on how some of the challenges highlighted can be tackled, the Gombe State Coordinator Alh.(Dr.) Ahmed Usman emphasized the adoption of integrated Communication Approch in reaching the NHIA enrollees, the other stakeholders and the general public.

One of the resolution of the meeting is the call for the improvement of the quality of services given to the NHIA enrollees by some of the Tertiary Healthcare Institutions in the zone.
