New electricity tariff takes effect July 1, KEDCO alerts consumers

The Management of Kaduna Electric has informed its customers in Kaduna, Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states that a new tariff regime for all categories of electricity users across the country comes into effect on Wednesday, July 1, 2020.

It said the new tariff regime has become necessary to enable all players (Generation, Transmission, Distribution as well as gas companies) in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry cover costs of their operations and ensure improved service delivery.

“The new pricing regime is not all about tariff hike, but a deliberate and systematic march towards putting the nation’s power sector on the path to sustainable growth, efficient service delivery and a value driven industry by attracting the required investment to the sector.

“The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) shall in due course release the approved tariff regime for Kaduna Electric which would be immediately made known to our esteemed customers.

“Our objective has always been our customers’ satisfaction. As such, we have almost concluded the necessary procurement processes and shall soon commence the implementation of our Performance Improvement Plan earlier submitted to the Regulator.

“We want to assure our esteemed customers that Kaduna Electric will be changing its customer categorization to a Service Band tariff categorisations (A to E) that will enable our customers pay according to Service Levels. The essence is to provide our customers sustainable service improvement towards meeting their energy needs.

“We also enjoin our customers to utilize the MAP Metering window by applying and paying for meters to the MAPs in their area. We are unwavering in our commitment to meeting the electricity needs of all our customers,” the management said in a statement.
